What Age Can Kids Ride Independently With Pedals?

Independent pedalling typically happens between 4 and 5 years but some kids as young as 3 can learn to ride a pedal bike. Especially without training wheels!

Working with the super young superheroes is magical and watching their journey as they progress and move forward is wonderful!

It takes a little patience in getting them to understand the technique, but once they feel safe and that they have control, they are a-for-away!

It's back to the 'balance bike to pedal bike', or 'balance bike to taining wheels' discussion.

The benefits of balance bike to pedal bike WITHOUT training wheels is HUGE!

Kids who start learning on balance bikes begin pedalling independently earlier than kids who start on pedal bikes with training wheels. NO TRAINING WHEELS MEANS that they have already learnt how to balance and steer with their bodies, shoulders, hips and core. The balance bikes that have brakes allow the kids to understand breaking too. It's a massive step in the right direction to move from a balance bike to a bike WITHOUT training wheels!

Take that leap of faith, a few moments of time and let your little ones go solo.

If you struggle with time or you have the little superhero that simply doesn't listen to mom or dad, give us at Chain Gang MTB Club a call, we are here to assist the transition process.
